Oak Ridge’s long-awaited swimming pool, sponsored by the Recreation and Welfare Association, opened last Saturday with enthusiastic residents eagerly taking advantage of the first opportunity to swim in the area. The pool is open daily from 1:00 to 9 p.m. Located off Robertsville Road near the new West Village Shopping Center, the new pool contains spring-fed water which is filtered and purified by the finest modern equipment.

A shady beach encircles the pool and there are bath houses located at the western end. A first aid station is also located within the swimming pool enclosure. Seven paid lifeguards and several additional volunteers are on duty at the pool. Lifesaving courses will be instituted to train additional guards shortly. A learn-to-swim campaign for beginners will begin soon at the pool, with regular class schedules worked out.

Experience, competent instructors will be in charge of classes. Admission to the pool is 10 cents, with children under 12 admitted free. All swimmers are required to take a soap shower in one of the bathhouses before entering the pool, authorities announced. The Department of Public Health has prepared a complete set of rules governing the use of the swimming pool.
