The August 11, 2022 meeting of the Recreation and Parks Advisory Board was convened at 7:00 pm in the Oak Ridge Recreation Center Social Room with Chairman Jake Greear presiding.

Approval of the July 28, 2022 Meeting Minutes
The July 28, 2022 meeting minutes were approved with no changes.

- Board Work Plan – Motion to approve: Ali Jones, second: Chris Melhorn
- The Board discussed the draft work plan developed at the July Work Session. Several revisions to the draft were suggested.
- Motion to approve as revised: Ali Jones, second: Mark Cantrell. The revised work plan was approved unanimously.

- Oak Ridge Swimming Pool:
- Jon reported that he is working on a draft scope of work for the design/engineering contract to present to the Board at the next meeting.

- North Boundary Greenway- No report

- Parks & Recreation Stewardship, Maintenance and Trail Development:
- The Clinch Valley Trail Alliance (CVTA) is hosting monthly trail work days at Haw Ridge Park. In August they will be preparing for the Hill of Truth Race to be held the first weekend in October.
Secondary Objectives:
- Community Events – Jon Hetrick provided a list of all events currently on the Rec & Parks Department calendar, including City events and events by outside organizations
- Rails to Trails- Final Right of Way plans have been completetd by the City’s engineering consultant, AMT.
- Conference Center Update – Plan development is ongoing.
- Melton Lake Park Greenway Bridge Support – No Report
- Bell – A proposal has been received to add interpretive signage at the site. A presentation is planned for the next Board meeting.
- Disc Golf- the disc golf club has indicated they have a development plan ready for department review; working to schedule a time for that review.
- Blueways – No report
Appearance and Citizen Comments
- Doug Colclasure – thanked the Board for their support of the North Boundary Greenway. He noted that a new option for supplying power to the park is under consideration.
Updates and Observations {Non Action Items)
- Dan – only one fire ant mound on Melton lake Greenway Phase IV in the last month.
Director’s Report:
- Interviewing for the new Special Projects Coordinator position next week.
